Biography

​Lauren Liddicoat holds a Bachelors of Music Degree from The Manhattan School of Music in New York City as well as a dual Masters Degree in Performance and Pedagogy** from WCC in Princeton New Jersey. She has been a vocal instructor in Kelowna, B.C. since 2013, building a vocal studio bursting with talent. Her students can be seen on stage singing lead roles in both Musical Theatre and Contemporary Commercial Music genres. Lauren has prepared students for successful entry into post-secondary education programs at institutions such as The Randolph School of the Performing Arts and The Toronto Film School. Lauren specializes in individually crafting lessons to bring out the unique and authentic voice of each student. Music flowing from the studio is varied, covering genres from Rock, Pop, Indie and Country to Musical Theatre and Classical. 

As an undergraduate student, Lauren studied under Patricia Misslin, the former teacher of international opera superstars and Metropolitan Opera singers, Renee Fleming and Stephanie Blythe. She also studied language, diction, and acting with faculty of the Juilliard School of Music and Yale as well as coaches of the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera and LA Opera.

As a masters student, Lauren went on to study under the internationally renowned mezzo, Laura Brooks Rice and soprano Sharon Sweet. The music business can be a tough but gratifying career, but without a healthy voice and a strong technical foundation a long career can be hard to maintain. Lauren was fortunate to study Pedagogy** with Scott McCoy, the author of Your Voice: An Inside View (the pedagogy textbook widely used across the united states), as well as under Christopher Arneson, the Vocal Coach of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.

Lauren spent two seasons with The Westminster Symphonic Choir, performing with The New York Philharmonic, The Berlin Philharmonic as well as the Dresden Staatskapelle in venues including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. The Choir then went on the perform with Andrea Bocelli in Central Park.

As a young singer growing up in Penticton Lauren won at the provincial level as well as receiving the Silver Medal for the highest scores in Canada for RCM examinations. She has performed in musical theater as well as operatic productions and has performed a great deal of recital work, including a recital with Michael Burgess, Canada’s famous Tenor known for Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserable. 

**Vocal pedagogy is the study of the art and science of voice instruction. It is used in the teaching of singing and assists in defining what singing is, how singing works, and how proper singing technique is accomplished. It covers a broad range of aspects of singing, ranging from the physiological process of vocal production to the artistic aspects of interpretation of songs from different genres or historical eras. Typical  area of study include: Human anatomy and physiology as it relates to the physical process of singing, breathing and air support for singing, phonation,vocal resonationor voice projection, diction, articulation, phonetics,voice classification,vocal registration,range extension, and tone quality. As well as vocal health and voice disorders related to singing.
